Our Motto:

"... it takes a whole village to raise a child!"
– Sobonfu E. Somé

The elkiko Family Center was founded in 2001 by parents, for parents and children, as a non-profit association. Since 2004, we have had our own dedicated space. We see our center as a "public living room" for families. Here, both adults and children can play, read, enjoy coffee or tea, sing, do crafts, meet others, make connections, and share information. Every family is always welcome – our center aims to be as colorful and diverse as real life itself. We are not affiliated with any religion, political group, or ideology.

The elkiko Family Center seeks to be this modern-day village within the neighborhood and the city – open to anyone interested in shaping a sense of community. It’s a place where the everyday networking between families can thrive, bringing back what used to be provided by villages or extended families: mutual support and advice, shared joy with and through the children, and the comfort of knowing you’re not alone, even in difficult times. The center thrives on the involvement of many – on ideas, needs, and commitment.

And the children?
They gain a wide range of experiences with other children and adults, with different family cultures, and they see firsthand what’s possible in an organization where many people contribute and work together.

We also see ourselves as a first point of contact for families new to Tübingen who are looking to connect with others. Here you can meet other families and access a variety of useful information.
